Tuesday’s Tiny Tip: Make Your Passwords Purposeful

This tip is so tiny and so easy, but yields big benefits: Make your passwords into affirmations.

Most of us have to enter computer and account passwords multiple times a day, so why not make them opportunities for little bursts of support or encouragement?

At my journalism job, we had to change our account passwords every couple months, so I was always looking for uplifting little phrases I could use, like LifeIsGood or BelieveToAchieve, stuff like that. That way, many times a day, I was typing in concepts that had real personal resonance with me. Even if it didn’t feel like LifeIsGood, I had to input that into my computer (and brain) to get to work.

Admittedly, it can be embarrassing when you need tech support and have to tell the IT guy your password is “I am beautiful.”

But most of the time, your passwords are just between you and your computer, so if you want to log in every day by writing “I am beautiful” or “I am a handsome superhunk” or “My goals are my destiny,” you can. And you’ll be reminding yourself constantly of how awesome you are.
